Lifelong Learning in Wooster

Education is a lifelong journey, and it's never too late to learn something new or enhance your existing skills. Fortunately, Wooster offers numerous educational resources that cater to people of all ages and interests. Whether you're a student, a professional looking to upskill, or a retiree seeking intellectual stimulation, you’ll find educational opportunities that can enrich your life and help you achieve your goals. Let's dive in!

Wayne County Public Library

If you want to learn a new skill, but aren’t sure what to explore, the Wayne County Public Library is a great place to start. In addition to having books on any topic you can imagine, the library hosts classes for patrons of all ages. Whether you’re interested in improving your academic skills, doing a craft, joining a book club, or taking up journaling, you can do it at the library–and maybe make a few new friends in the process. You can browse upcoming events and sign up for classes here.

A Time to Craft

For those who find themselves buying up craft supplies with the best of intentions, only to watch them gather dust in the basement months or years later (no judgment!), A Time to Craft is here to build your skills and keep you motivated to follow through on those projects! A Time to Craft offers classes for crafters of all levels, from novice to experienced, in a variety of mediums. And if you can’t find a class that fits your goals, they also offer open studio time, which gives you the opportunity to bring a craft from home or choose one of their projects. You can even schedule private group events, so you can feel free to experiment in an environment with people you already know. You can learn more about upcoming classes and scheduling private events on their website.

The College of Wooster

If you’re looking to broaden your academic horizons or prepare for an upcoming trivia night or Jeopardy appearance, The College of Wooster hosts a number of lecture series and panel discussions that are open to the public. The Great Decisions of Wayne County series, run as a partnership between the College and the community, brings experts in international affairs and foreign policy to campus to encourage students and residents to think about global issues and our participation in them. The College also offers the Wooster Science Café, held in the Excelsior Room at Spoon Market on the first Wednesday of the month from September to May. During Wooster Science Café events, scientists give a short talk on their field of expertise and then answer questions and chat with attendees about the topic. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how the world around us works. Past topics have included winemaking, bananas, and yoga.

No matter who you are, Wooster offers an array of options for lifelong learning. Remember: education is not confined to traditional classrooms; it exists everywhere, waiting for you to explore. So, take a step forward, enroll in a course, join a workshop, attend a lecture, and embark on a lifelong journey of learning and discovery.
